Gender Based Violence

The Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) is steadfast in its commitment to combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Pakistan. Recognizing GBV as a profound violation of human rights and a significant barrier to social equity, CPDI implements multifaceted strategies to address and eradicate violence against women and marginalized communities.

Key Initiatives

1. Strengthening Legal Frameworks CPDI has undertaken comprehensive research to identify gaps in existing laws related to GBV. In collaboration with stakeholders, the organization advocates for reforms to fortify legal protections for women. A notable project, "Strengthening Gender Legal Framework for Combating Violence against Women," involved action-oriented studies in districts such as Khushab, Lahore, Jhelum, and Muzaffargarh. This initiative aimed to mobilize state machinery through advocacy, leading to policy recommendations designed to enhance the gender legal framework and effectively combat violence against women. 2. Capacity Building and Sensitization Recognizing the pivotal role of law enforcement and legal professionals, CPDI conducts capacity-building workshops targeting police officers, lawyers, public health officials, and crisis center staff. These sessions focus on understanding the nuances of GBV and the application of gender-sensitive approaches in their respective fields. By equipping these professionals with the necessary tools and knowledge, CPDI strives to create a more supportive environment for survivors seeking justice. 3. Advocacy and Public Awareness CPDI actively engages in advocacy campaigns to raise public awareness about GBV. Through seminars, workshops, and media engagements, the organization educates communities about the detrimental effects of GBV and the importance of collective action in its eradication. These efforts aim to challenge societal norms that perpetuate violence and to promote a culture of respect and equality. 4. Community Engagement through the HumAhang Program Under the USAID-funded HumAhang program, CPDI collaborates with partners to foster peace and social cohesion. A significant component of this initiative is the establishment of Youth Assemblies, which serve as platforms for young leaders to engage in peacebuilding activities. These assemblies empower youth to take active roles in combating GBV within their communities, promoting tolerance, and advocating for human rights. 5. Participation in Global Campaigns CPDI participates in international campaigns such as the "16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence." During this period, the organization amplifies its efforts through social media campaigns, community events, and collaborative projects with other NGOs. These activities aim to unite diverse voices against GBV, fostering a collective commitment to ending violence and supporting survivors.

Recent Activities

- Consultative Sessions: CPDI has organized sessions with community members, including women, youth, and marginalized groups, to discuss strategies for preventing GBV. These dialogues facilitate the exchange of ideas and the development of community-driven solutions. - Media Engagements: The organization leverages media platforms to disseminate messages about the importance of ending GBV. Through interviews, articles, and social media posts, CPDI raises awareness and educates the public on recognizing and addressing various forms of violence.

Through these comprehensive efforts, CPDI remains dedicated to creating a society where all individuals, regardless of gender, can live free from violence and discrimination.
