Covid-19 Response

The Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) has been at the forefront of addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in Pakistan. Recognizing the critical need for a coordinated and effective response, CPDI launched the Civil Society Engagement for Effective COVID-19 Response project, generously supported by the Commonwealth Foundation.

Objectives

This initiative aims to:

  • Assess Government Policies: Critically evaluate the government's strategies and actions in managing the COVID-19 crisis to identify strengths and areas for improvement.

  • Engage Civil Society: Mobilize civil society organizations (CSOs) to foster informed discussions and debates, ensuring that diverse perspectives contribute to policy refinement and effective implementation.

Key Activities

  1. Formation of the Civil Society Network on COVID-19 Response CPDI extended an invitation to CSOs specializing in advocacy, policy development, research, governance, and health to join a collaborative network. This coalition serves as a platform for unified advocacy, aiming to reform and enhance governmental COVID-19 policies. The network emphasizes inclusivity, bringing together organizations with at least two years of relevant experience and a commitment to non-partisan, not-for-profit principles.
  2. Policy Analysis and Recommendations Through rigorous research and analysis, CPDI, in collaboration with network members, scrutinizes existing COVID-19 policies. The collective efforts focus on identifying policy gaps and proposing actionable recommendations to ensure a more robust and effective pandemic response.
  3. Advocacy and Public Engagement Leveraging the collective voice of the network, CPDI orchestrates advocacy campaigns targeting policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public. These campaigns aim to raise awareness about critical issues, influence policy decisions, and promote practices that mitigate the pandemic's impact on communities.
  4. Capacity Building Recognizing the pivotal role of CSOs in pandemic response, CPDI offers training and resources to enhance their capacity in policy analysis, advocacy, and community engagement. This empowerment enables organizations to effectively contribute to the national COVID-19 response.

Collaborative Approach

The success of this project hinges on the collaborative efforts of diverse CSOs across Pakistan. By uniting under the Civil Society Network on COVID-19 Response, these organizations amplify their impact, ensuring that policy advocacy is informed, inclusive, and reflective of ground realities.

Through the Civil Society Engagement for Effective COVID-19 Response project, CPDI reaffirms its dedication to fostering a coordinated, transparent, and effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic, safeguarding public health, and promoting sustainable development in Pakistan.
