The Coalition for Elections and Democracy (CED) is a collaborative initiative led by the Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI), bringing together prominent civil society organizations in Pakistan. CED is dedicated to promoting democratic governance, electoral transparency, and inclusive political participation across the country.

Mission & Objectives

  • CED's core mission is to strengthen Pakistan’s democratic processes by advocating for:​
  • Free, fair, and timely elections in accordance with constitutional mandates.
  • Inclusive electoral participation, ensuring accessibility for persons with disabilities, the elderly, and marginalized communities.
  • Constructive political dialogue to reduce polarization and foster consensus on electoral reforms.
  • Transparent electoral processes, including the monitoring of pre-election, election day, and post-election activities.

Key Activities

CED engages in a range of activities to promote democratic practices, including:

  • Advocacy for Electoral Reforms: Urging the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure inclusive elections by making polling stations accessible and addressing barriers faced by persons with disabilities.
  • Promotion of Political Dialogue: Calling upon political parties and national institutions to engage in dialogue aimed at ensuring free and fair elections, reducing political polarization, and upholding constitutional obligations.
  • Election Observation: Monitoring electoral processes to ensure transparency and accountability, including the observation of pre-election and election day activities.

Secretariat

The secretariat of CED is housed within the Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) in Islamabad.
