Budget Literacy & Oversight Initiative under Transparency and Accountability

Traditionally, budget-making in Pakistan has been an exclusive domain of the government, with limited public access to relevant financial information. This lack of transparency has hindered citizens' ability to analyze and influence budgetary decisions in a timely manner. The Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) has been working to change this by advocating for open and participatory budgeting, enhancing civil society’s capacity for budget tracking, and promoting people-centered financial planning.

The Budget Literacy & Oversight Initiative aims to:

  • Examine Budget Processes: Conduct in-depth studies of budget-making mechanisms at various levels of governance to assess their inclusivity and efficiency.
  • Analyze Budget Priorities: Evaluate budget allocations in relation to socio-economic challenges and the needs of marginalized communities.
  • Monitor Budget Utilization: Track the use of allocated funds, identify inefficiencies, and conduct advocacy to address disparities and improve fiscal management.
  • Enhance Public Engagement: Raise awareness and foster informed policy debates to encourage citizen participation in budgetary processes and influence policy outcomes. Through these efforts, CPDI strives to ensure that budgeting in Pakistan becomes more transparent, accountable, and responsive to the needs of the people.
