Stakeholders Dialogue with Members of Women Parliamentary Caucus, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and Civil Society Representatives on Local Government System

Mukhtar Ahmad Ali gave a talk about concept of governance and emphasized that good local governments must be established on principal of subsidiarity

Mukhtar Ahmad Ali demanded that local governments should be politically, financially and administratively autonomous

Shagufta Malik MPA KP Assembly, raised voice against the approach that women parliamentarians elected on reserved seats are usually considered incapable by other members of assembly

Naeema Kishwar MPA KP Assembly suggested that representation of women must be ensured in local government commission and any other forum established under KP LGA Act, 2013

Members of women caucus took keen interest in the dialogue session and shared their views proactively

Maliha Ali Asghar Khan MPA KP Assembly shared views about landmark legislations passed by KP Assembly

Sumera Shams Chairperson MPA and WPC KP appreciated the role of CPDI in enhancing capacity of women parliamentarians

Sajid Gul, Secretary Provincial Delimitation Authority KP LG Dpt. Conducted in-depth sessions on powers, functions and composition of local government system in KP

Stakeholders dialogue session on local government was attended by the representatives of civil society, media, government officials and parliamentarians.

Abdul Hafeez, Direction elections, ECP said that first phase of LG elections shall be held on 19th Dec in KP

Nighat Siddiqui from ECP answered several queries by MPAs on the code of conduct of ECP about inclusion of women in political participation

Participants took keen interest in panel discussion on gender and social inclusion

Mukhtar Ahmad Ali ED CPDI took the unanimous agreement of participants. Participants jointly recommended expansion of Article 140-A, awarding least 33 % of the tickets on general seats to women candidates and party based elections at all tiers of government.

Anita Mehsud, General Secretary WPC KP, applauded efforts of CPDI and GIZ for engaging women parliamentarians in the capacity building sessions and requested to continue the action in future
