Editorial: Greetings from the Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives, (CPDI). PMLN seems disinterested in transparency and right to information both at federal and at provincial levels. At the provincial level, PMLN Punjab government kept on dragging its feet on the issue of releasing funds for Punjab Information Commission. These days, it is not providing staff to Punjab Information Commission and neither it is approving service rules so that the commission could hire staff on its own. The delaying tactics being employed by PMLN will give credence to what is already believed by many that the party was never interested in enacting the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act 2013 in the first place and that it was forced to follow suit of PTI when it enacted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act 2013. This assertion gets strengthened by its track record on right to information legislation at the federal level also. How can the party justify delay in presenting in the parliament right to information bill approved by the Senate Committee on Information and Broadcasting as long as on July 15, 2014? Clearly, PMLN will have to walk the talk and soon and take concrete steps if it wants to convince those keeping track of right to information legislation in the country that the party is serious about good governance.
