Editorial: Greetings from Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives, (CPDI). The deafening silence
maintained by PPP on the issue of provincial right to information law has
finally been broken. Ms. Sharmila Farooqi, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh
said in a conference held by CPDI on June 08, 2015 in Karachi that the new RTI
bill will be tabled in Sindh Assembly at the start of the next parliamentary
year. This is the first public commitment by PPP leader in the Sindh
province. However, we have seen many public commitments by PPP to repeal
Freedom of Information Ordinance 2002 during its tenure but nothing came out
of those commitments. Therefore, this is high time that civil society groups
step up the campaign for the enactment of effective RTI law in Sindh. CPDI
has already shared with the Sindh government model RTI law as the draft Sindh
bill leaves much to be desired according to those who have seen the bill. We
will keep you posted about the developments. Happy reading, CPDI India Over
