Editorial: Greetings from Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives, (CPDI). We received an interesting response from Additional Secretary (Welfare)/ Public Information Officer for Welfare Wing, S&GAD, Punjab on our request pertaining to the list of passengers of the Punjab government helicopter and number of flights taken from July 01, 2013 to April 02, 2014 filed under the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act 2013. The Punjab government has cited 'security' reasons for not divulging names of those who have used helicopter of the Government of Punjab. Interestingly, we got positive response from Section Officer (Aviation-I) on a similar request for information filed under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act 2013. Rumours abound about the way Punjab government helicopter is being used and it is in the best interest of the Punjab government that it shares the requested information to put an end to these damaging rumours. Mr. Waseem Abbasi, an investigative journalist is also trying to get access to the similar information and those who are interested in the use of Punjab government helicopter might find the related stories in this issue very interesting. Especially, the Punjab government clarification and the rejoinder by Mr. Abbasi show the effectiveness of RTI as a tool for investigative reporting.
